Shawn L. Cornett
My name is Shawn Cornett and I am the preaching minister here at First Christian. I am married to Shannon and we have a son named Jonathan. I am a graduate of Lincoln Christian College in Lincoln, Illinois and have done post-graduate work at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. I have been the preaching minister here at Griffith since May of 2007 and we love serving God here!

My wife Shannon is also a graduate of Lincoln Christian College.
I am a huge football fan. I root for the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Green Bay Packers.
I also root for the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Blackhawks.

I studied acting at Indiana State University before transferring to Lincoln in 1996.
I have been to Haiti on a short-term mission trip.
My wife Shannon played college basketball and was VERY good.
We got married on the day after Christmas in 1998.
I have served congregations in Atwood, Illinois and Forest Lake, Minnesota.
I was ordained in 1997 at Town and Country Christian Church in Crown Point, Indiana.
My favorite book of the Bible changes from time to time, but it is usually Romans or 1 John.
The first book I ever preached was Philippians.
My favorite Disney character is Dug from "Up".

I graduated Central Christian College of the Bible in Moberly Missouri in 2006 with a degree in Youth and Family Ministries. I am one of the Elders at Griffith First Christian Church. I truly enjoy being a shepherd of God's flock here at GFCC. I have been a member at Griffith First Christian since 1996. I am married to a wonderful wife (Nancy) and also the proud father of two outstanding young men (Daniel & Brandon). I especially love to praise and worship God! I am currently involved with our Finance Committee and enjoy crunching numbers. A few relaxing home-time hobbies of mine include playing Sudoku and Spades. I am an avid sports fan and especially enjoy Basketball and Football.

Tony Martinez
Hey, my name is Tony Martinez and I've been a member here since 2002. If there was a way to describe myself, I would have to consider myself as the Elder that is "rough and tough," mainly because of my extreme hobbies. As I walk into the doors of the church, I truly feel that Griffith First Christian is my home. Mind you, it's not because I spend every waking moment there, but I definitely feel comfortable with all of our members. And I would love for that opportunity to be yours too. I would hope that you wish to become a part of our family, a part of my family. When you decide to visit our church, you will find many friendly faces, and a very worshipful service.

To discuss a little bit more about myself, I was a Sergeant in the Marines. If you know any fellow Marines, you might notice some mannerisms that reflect the truism: Once a Marine, Always a Marine.
I was once a Skydiving Instructor. I have 1400 Skydives under my belt and have participated in a World Record where 246 people gathered to form the world's largest freefall formation. I have also done some Basejumping, and have also Bungee Jumped once. A few other cool hobbies I have taken up was that I have learned how to ski, snowboard, and ride a motorcycle.
I have a lovely wife, Sandy, and four kids: Aaron, Celina, TJ, and Christian. I LOVE being a dad!

(Proverbs 27:17) - As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Mike Ryan
I, Mike Ryan, am an Elder here at Griffith First Christian Church. I find here joy in serving the Lord here at His church in Griffith. I love to think of this congregation as a family, and that we each care about one another. When good things happen to one of us we ALL rejoice, and when trials come our way we each pray for one another. It is this family atmosphere I like like to promote and speak to folks about. With God as our Father and Christ our brother, we are brought together and become one as the Holy Spirit reigns in our life. The more the Spirit reigns in our life, the closer we become. It is my hope that those who come to visit us see and feel the Holy Spirit in each member and want to become a part of the family.

I have been a member of Griffith First Christian Church for over 30 years. I love this congregation. My wife and I were married here, my kids were raised here, and most of my friends are here. My son, who is a Timothy of this church, is a pastor in a small church in Iowa. My daughter, who was also married in this church, is a teacher and works with kids in the volleyball program at her school. It was the congregation, my church family, here at Griffith that helped raise them and teach them every step of the way. Today they are sharing their faith with others that they meet and the common denominator through it all is GOD and FAMILY. In short, they learned to LOVE GOD, LOVE OTHERS, and SPREAD THE GOSPEL.

As a member of the website committee, my job is to maintain and upkeep the website. I am in charge of the Homepage, the Children's section, the "This Week" section, and the Music Page.

I love my job, and I love what I do. I have the tendancy to be extremely organized, so I am able to multitask quite well. One of my favorite Bible verses is Psalm 62:8, which says "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge." God is always there for us, no matter what walk of life we come from. He is there.
